nce you start searching for a dentist in Hungary it will soon become apparent that dental tourism is big business and that the country leads Europe in offering cheap, top quality dental work. But why has Hungary become such a centre of excellence for this kind of treatment? Dentists in cities like Budapest have built up a strong reputation over many decades, in fact, historically tourists have long visited the country from neighbouring Austria and Germany to have their teeth fixed.

Hungary is a modern European country with very high standards of medical care. They have an inclusive healthcare system which is supported by the government to ensure that good healthcare is available to everyone. Many people start to look for a dentist in Hungary because in the UK, the National Health Service has made disastrous decisions about dental care. The now notorious Dental Contracts caused a shortage of dentists when it was brought into effect in 2006. The changes left many Brits without basic dental care, something which would never happen in Hungary.

The high standards of dental care stem from the six years of training that a dentist in Hungary must do to just get a basic qualification. (In the UK it’s a five year course). There is then additional advanced training for specialist treatments such as implant surgery. Hungarian dentists must continue their education by taking courses each year which comply with a points system and they must belong to at least one international dental association.

As well as the high standard of care, people travel to Hungary for dental treatment because of the incredible value for money and low prices on offer. The cost of living is less in Hungary and prices are kept low because there are so many clinics competing for business. Visiting a dentist in Hungary will cost about one third of the price of a UK private dentist. Price comparisons include paying £550 for a crown in the UK versus only £200 in Hungary.
