Mini dental implants are used for a variety of reasons but usually when the load to be placed on them is not significant. Mini dental implants are most often employed as a temporary measure to hold existing dentures in place whilst full implants set into the bone. Mini-dental implants are often proposed as the final solution to stabalise dentures especially where a full sized implant cannot be tolerated. The big difference between mini dental implants and full sized ones are the ability of full dental implants to maintain bone structure which would otherwise naturally deteriorate. If mini dental implants are fitted they will serve their purpose for a limited amount of time but later when bone has reduced they become much less effective and new dentures will need to be made to fit the shrunken gum line and new mini dental implants fitted. So in the long run this tactic may well work out to be much more expensive though in some cases it may be the only option.

Dental Implants are used as a permanent replacement for missing teeth. Titanium screws are embeded in the jaw at a depth identical to that of normal roots. Over the next 2-3 months a bone tissue bonds to the specially prepared surface of the implant. In the UK the cost of implant placing can sometimes exceed £2000 excluding all but the wealthiest of patients. In Hungary it is possible to complete the proceedure for less than £500.
Dental Implantology has recently fully come of age after at least three
decades of clinical trials. It has finally become fully accepted by a previously sceptical scientific community. Today, millions of successfull dental implants have been successfully placed as more and more people are finding out about the benefits of the amazing dental implant system.
The downside to dental implants for many people is simply the high cost demanded in most countries. At Smile Savers Hungary we have a the solution that brings the advantages of dental implants into many more peoples grasp.
Dental Implant Information
During the last 30 years the use of dental implants has
changed dentistry beyond recognition. Implants are no longer considered experimental
and it is equally rare to come across situations where they cannot be used
at all.
Following is a an extract of frequently asked questions about dental implants and associated subjects such as bone grafting which
is meant to serve as an explanation of what can be quite a complex subject.
If an implant does not achieve or cannot maintain
a rigid fixation with the surrounding bone it will eventually become
loose and no longer be able to support replacement teeth. Commonly the
failing implant causes no discomfort and if there are enough remaining,
it may not be necessary to replace it at all. Failures may not always
be so easy to deal with and if you embark upon this type of treatment
you have to be prepared to deal with this possibility. Most treatment
providers will want to achieve failure rates much less than 5%, however
in practice this could mean that 1 in 20 of the implants placed might
not survive in long-term function. It is a good idea to discuss how your
treatment plan might be affected by the loss of an implant.
What
is a dental implant?
Almost all dental implants in use today are made
from titanium or titanium alloy, materials that have been shown over
many years to be well tolerated by bone. The terms 'osseointegrated implants'
or 'endosseous implants' are widely used to describe dental implants
that can develop and maintain a close union with bone in order to support
replacement teeth. There are many different implant systems available
and when competently used they can all deliver a highly reliable form
of treatment.
A dental implant is essentially a substitute for a natural root and commonly
it is screw or cylinder shaped. Each implant is placed into a socket
carefully drilled at the precise location of the intended tooth. If an
implant has a screw-thread on its outer surface it can be screwed into
position and if it does not, it is usually tapped into place. The main
aim during installation of any implant is to achieve immediate close
contact with the surrounding bone. This creates an initial stability,
which over time is steadily enhanced by further growth of bone into microscopic
roughnesses on the implant surface. In order to support replacement teeth,
dental implants normally have some form of internal screw thread or post
space that allows a variety of components to be fitted. Once fitted,
these components provide the foundation for long-term support of crowns,
bridges or dentures.
